Playing Final Fantasy I
It's the pixel remaster version I got on the Steamdeck during the steam summer sale this week. I tried playing the OG Nintendo version just before this and while the graphics were fine and reminded me of Dragon Warrior the music was beyond abrasive. It's shrill, repetitive, and honestly I didn't make it past the screen where you select and name the party members.
So yeah, the Pixel Remaster of FFI has been a breeze to play. The music while, similar is redone in a much softer tone that you can listen to for a long time without audio fatigue. I think they might have made the monsters easier to beat too. I just got done with the Volcano boss and I haven't had any major issues or team wipes. The only help I'm using is from the official manual that came with the game. There is a PDF of it on Nintendo's website for those who are playing it on the Switch.
Anyway it's pretty straightforward. Make sure you get some spells, buy enough ether and pots before leaving town. The use of tents is great. There weren't any tents in FFX rather you just touched a save point to heal everyone. I'm currently using a team of 1 Warrior, 1 Thief, 1 White Mage, and 1 Black Mage. Next time I might skip the Thief and replace him with a Red Mage.
But yeah, I'm supposed to go to an Ice Cave next and the manual says I should lvl up first before attempting it.
