I sketched out a joke about doomscrolling

A few weeks ago we went to Shreveport for a work meeting. We stayed at one of the casinos because my husband likes to play blackjack and it's super cheap to play there. I typically like to play slot machines but this time around they were pretty lame. I think half of them were the "buffalo" game and the other half were some flavor of Chinese dragon or gold coins. Now, I like the buffalo game, but I also like the movie themed ones like Wizard of Oz and stuff like that. I will hop from machine to machine, pulling my money once I hit a small "event" or "win", typically it's just putting in 20 bucks, losing 15 and winning 10. But this time every machine just never did an event. They just kept scrolling nothing, like winning 15 cents or 50 cents here and there. The win "events" were cool things to watch but you'd win way less than you put in waiting for that to hit. I had way better results at other casinos, and we rarely go so it was kind of a bummer. I did play roulette for the first time and won 100 bucks or so doing that so that was fun.

Anyway, a few days ago I was scrolling instagram reels on my phone before bed and couldn't help but notice the similarity of the long tall screens that slot machines use now and the shape of my phone. Just sitting there scrolling through reels like playing slots. Sometimes you get a good video, sometimes it's lame. Sometimes you get a good one and send it to your friend who lives 900 miles away you haven't seen in four years.

So I sat down and drew out a comic of it. That's me in the back, walking in to watch videos of people eating things in the car.
