Auto-translate... It's weird, right?

What-the-Mass-Effect-Omni-Tool-Actually-Does

So, I've noticed that Twitter has had an auto translate thing for a while now. You'll see a post from someone with an all kanji name but the text is in english. Then under their name is a little note that says "Translated from Japanese."

Used to, you had to click "translate" to see what something said. I know it's easier to keep scrolling and be able to read what someone wrote automatically but it's kind of jarring to notice that a chunk of tweets are auto translated.

I don't think I would have noticed it at all but with the world cup going on folks from other countries are showing up in my feed more. Like, here on bear blog there are posts in other languages and if I want to read them I can use google translate in the browser. What if I was trying to learn that language and wanted to read it in the original form?

I'm sure it's a setting I can flip somewhere but for it to be on automatically feels weird. Especially since it's location based. "Oh this user is in the US, translate everything to English. Let's get more clicks and keep everyone scrolling!"

Also, Twitter links are broken on feedz right now. I'll fix it later.
